Kate and the Beanstalk

Kate and the Beanstalk Author: Mary Pope Osborne Illustrator: Giselle Potter Age or Grade: 3 rd to 5 th graders This is a different version of Jack and the Beanstalk and the main character is a girl instead of a boy. It all started when Kate’s mother was in desperate need of food and money for they are poor. She wanted to sell the cow so Kate helped by selling it and ended up selling it from an old man who has seeds. They both exchanged and Kate’s mother got furious and threw the seeds out the window. The seeds then grew up and up through the clouds above. Kate then climbed it and encountered a challenge for her with the giantess. Each day she has a duty to do and disguises herself. Once the giant found out about her disguises and getting the 3 needed things, the giant chased her until Kate has to cut the beanstalk. Queen of the Fairies then approached Kate and her mother to grant her for her accomplishments and her inheritance for bravery. She and her mother then lived

Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland Author: Jan Payne Illustrator: Eva Morales Genre: Fantasy and Science Fiction Ages or Grade: 2 nd to 5 th grade   This book is a retelling of the modern classic Alice in Wonderland. It is about a girl named Alice who was sleeping in the garden while waiting for her sister. She woke up seeing a furry white rabbit running with a clock on its hands. Throughout the book, he encountered a lot of weird talking animals and plants. He encountered a room that consist of miniature furniture and doors which led her to follow directions to drink or eat something from the table or so. She then encountered a mad hatter in a tea party, a smoking caterpillar, a cat that has a huge smile with white teeth and then the queen with her flamingo and playing cards. Rapunzel Author: Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Illustrator: Carol Heyer Genre: Traditional Literature Ages or Grade: 2 nd to 5 th grade Rapunzel is a story well-known story about a couple who are greedy that the witch took their child in exchange of their wrongdoings. It all started when the wife wanted some of the fruits from the backyard of their neighbors. She craved it so much and wanted it that his husband sneaked in and get some until the owner found out that he had been stealing. In exchange for him stealing, the witch wanted their child. She locked up Rapunzel in a high tower till a prince found out about the tower and Rapunzel. They both fell in love and the witch found out. The witch then cut off her hair and locked her up. He fell and blinded himself but years passed and they found each other again and live happily ever after. This is a long story for children to read aloud so I will probably start to read half of it in the morning and then read the en
