Isabella Girl on the Go

Isabella Girl on the Go

Author: Jennifer Fosberry
Illustrator: Mike Litwin
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Grade: 1st grade and up

Isabella is a little girl who always imagines wherever she goes or whatever she does. When working or playing outside with her dad, she always tells what she is. She is either an archeologist, a painter, a warrior, or many more. When her dad asks her to dig holes in the garden she will reply with an I am not….. I am……She contradicts what her dad says and moves on to another imagination. Her dad asked her to bring her paintbrush and be a painter but she said “I am not an artist….I am a warrior” the story continues on with different imaginations. At the end, her dad asks her where will she be going now and she closed with “Our Home.”

This is a short picture book. This is really imaginative because the story matches with the pictures in the book where it connects with Isabella’s imagination. I will read this out loud to my students because it is unique and interesting. It is very relatable and the student will really be drawn to read a story who are like them when they play around. I will ask predictions to the students of what will they think Isabella will be next and ask them if they know what the specific career does. This will really help them think of what career they want or want to be when they grow up. It is an easy read, especially for the lower grade levels. The illustrations are pastel like and colored pencil. It is very colorful and expands throughout the pages of the book. At the end of the book states the places that changed the world or landmarks, which is insightful for students also, especially for the upper-grade level students.

Red Sings from Treetops a year in color

Red Sings from Treetops a year in colors Author: Joyce Sidman Illustrator: Pamela Zagarenski Genre: Poetry Ages or Grade: 3 rd – 5 th grade This book makes colors alive like human beings. It describes the colors having qualities and bringing them into life. This poem book goes over the four seasons which is spring, fall, winter, and summer. Red Sings from Treetops illustrations are really well illustrated because it gives the feeling of actually being in that particular season. This book is great to read to my students because they will imagine and view colors as persons and each colors have amazing unique qualities. My students can also be more aware and appreciative of colors all around us. This poem book is more for a 3 rd through 5 th grade students due to the length of the sentences and understanding. Since the illustrations looks like paper art, I will have the students do their piece of art that is based on their favorite seasons.
