Silly Ghosts

Silly Ghosts

Author: Janet Lawler
Illustrator: Anna Chambers
Engineering by: Yevgeniya Yeretskaya
Genre: Fiction, Pop-up book
Grade: Pre-K and up

This is a Halloween pop-up book about ghosts. The silly ghosts pop out at night and they are looking for something or someone. Either a place to hide or to hunt, they are either searching for a party or a feast. The silly ghosts blow out candles that are lit and they play spooky games. They are looking for a special kid and now that they have seen you, they hope you will share with them a Happy Halloween.

This is a great pop-up book to share to the students in Halloween. I will not let the lower grade level touch this for it is delicate. I will prefer the 3rd grade students and up to handle it with care than the Pre-k students. This pop-up book is really simple and colorful. The silly ghosts of course pop out of the book and that there are parts that you pull a paper handle and the picture in the book disappears which is unique. I will definitely show this to my students near or during Halloween so that they will enjoy it. It is very appropriate to students and it is not scary at all.

Dia De Los Muertos

Dia De Los Muertos Author: Roseanne Greenfield Thong Illustration: Carles Ballesteros Genre: Multicultural book Grade: 1st grade and up This book is about the Day of the Dead in Spanish. The children throughout the town are getting ready for this celebration. They are decorating with the Spanish vocab words such as sugar skulls, bread, etc. They design the altars with colors and patterns. They also present and play music and have festivals and parades. This is a fun book to read for the Spanish students and Spanish learners because it the story is mixed with Spanish vocab words. The illustration in this book is really colorful and it is graphic drawing. I will read this to the class to explain and show that people have different festivities around the world and that the Day of the Dead is one of them. It is a different cultural tradition and that the students will be excited for it is also celebrated during Halloween.
